Blue sheep live high on steep hillsides where they can see snow leopards and other predators coming.  They're very well camouflaged and I'd never seen them close up.  One morning on this trek David and I walked up to the Tibet-side Everest base camp with Dhiren and came upon a couple of dozen before they began their day's climb.  Peter Matthiesen's excellent book, "The Snow Leopard" is about a trek he did with George Schaller to settle the long-standing controversy over whether they really are sheep - they're certainly not blue.  Schaller's book about the trek, "Stones of Silence" explains his conclusion that they're goats.
