Many people go home from the Himalayas wanting to help. What are some good ways?
Simplest is to make a donation to an aid organization. Some do excellent work but many are misguided. They build health clinics where no medical staff come, libraries that aren't used, water systems that aren't maintained - projects that don't make sense in the situation. Please, only support good organizations.
If you can offer time as well as cash it's much more satisfying to work directly with individuals or small communities. An amount of cash that's tiny to many travelers can transform the future for well-chosen people, and you can make a tremendous difference with your time alone.
I am fortunate to have found a small number of people I can help over the long term. That is only possible if you can spend enough time to get to know them. So here is my best suggestion:

I guarantee a donation via Parahamsa will be well used and volunteer work arranged for you by its principal, Deana Zabaldo, will be valuable and rewarding. If you want to visit before making decisions and be inspired by a journey into the Himalayan mountains and culture, go on one of Deana's treks. They truly are outstanding. You will meet Deana in my book but you don't have to wait for that!
